Havelock North Family Centre is proud to offer teachers with many years experience, and a passion for creating and sustaining learning for our tamariki and families.
I’m a qualified early childhood teacher with 18 years’ experience in 5 centres, including a Pasfika centre in Whanganui, Palmerston North and Auckland. Myself and my wife have relocated to Hastings earlier this month with our young son - Braxton, who will be joining me at Frederick Street Kindergarten.
I have a passion for teaching and having fun. I believe that if the children and the teaching team are having fun, learning new and exciting things is fun! I firmly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and I look forward to welcoming parents and their children to the centre and getting to know their amazing families.
My teaching philosophy focuses on creating a fully inclusive environment, one that values all akonga (learners), as valued members with their own gifts to share. I encourage akonga to teach and to learn alongside their peers – tuakana (more experienced peer) – teina (less experienced peer). I believe it is about more capable peers supporting each other sharing their own unique gifts. This is underpinned by my ultimate philosophy of having FUN!
Kia ora, I’m Caroline and have been working at HNFC since March this year. Previously to this I had been a stay at home mum with my three young children. I have always had a passion for working with children and spent five years working at a Special Needs School in Wellington.
I have been a Playcentre parent for eight years and have taken part in their education programmes. I feel it is a real privilege to be involved with our tamariki in these early years and love watching them learn and grow as individuals.
Kia ora, my name is Bruna. I am originally from Brazil and moved to New Zealand
last year with my husband, Edu, and my children, Cecilia (8) and Thomas (4).
I earned my teaching degree and masters in early childhood education in Brazil. For
nearly 15 years, I worked with both Primary and Early Childhood Education before
deciding to become a stay-at-home mom to my two wonderful children.
I believe that every child is unique and an agent of their own learning, bringing with
them their own history, previous knowledge, personality, and desires. I have always
been moved by the sparkle in children's eyes when they make discoveries and reach
new milestones in their development.
I am very grateful to have the opportunity to start my New Zealand teaching career
with this incredible team at HNFC. I can't wait to get to know each tamariki and
whānau and learn about this amazing country with you all.
We are delighted to welcome Cassey as a full time fully registered and certified Early childhood Teacher to the Havelock North Family Centre. Cassey comes to us with vast experience of working with children from 0-5 years in a variety of different Early Childhood Settings. She is excited to get to know you and your children.

"Viv and our baby group sessions helped me so much during my journey into mamahood. It was such a kind caring space where it was ok to just "be" - there was always such support, whether that was a listening ear, a hug, a coffee and kai, or someone to just hold your baby so you can have a free hand for 10 minutes (or an hour). It was a safe space to ask questions, to understand and learn about our babies. I met some amazing wahine throughout the year of baby group sessions and even met my bestie there when our babes were just three months old. It's two years later and little ones still see each other most days!"

"Viv's Parent and Baby Group was a very warm, welcoming and supportive environment. I looked forward to our weekly catch-ups and loved being able to chat to Viv and the other Mums to share the joys and challenges of being a new parent! Viv's kindest, experience and empathy was so lovely - she was such wonderful support to me"

It is so good to be able to join the parent group with my 2nd child, knowing my toddler is also welcomed, and engaged with the teachers
